Atacama desert - August 2005

Not a real trek this time, as the long distances done with 4x4 vehicles to reach the different places of interest of the area let you do only a few nice walks (all the same, with the Mt Licancabur ascent as an option). This is the price to pay to visit a desert, which is not only one of the most arid of the planet, but also one of the most unexpected. During hundreds of miles, every mountain is a volcano and the colors of the matter coming from the centre of the earth are amazing. You may believe you are on another planet.

Maps

Thanks to Google Maps, you will see below the trek map.

Click on "View Larger Map" to see a full screen map and to be able to load it in Google Earth and see a 3D view. The trek trace you see is not coming from a GPS, so do not try to use the coordinates to perform some actual navigation.
